Privacy Policy
AyahShare · Last updated 9 October 2026
AyahShare helps you turn ayahs of the Quran into images and videos to share. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. You can use the app without an account.
What we collect
- An anonymous device ID. A random identifier stored in your browser or app, used to count visits and keep the app working. It is not linked to your name unless you sign in.
- Usage events. Actions such as searches, ayahs opened, backgrounds chosen, exports and shares, with your approximate country (from the network) and device and browser type. We do not store your IP address.
- If you sign in with Google: your name, email address, profile photo and Google account ID, your saved designs (see below) and your favourite ayahs.
- If you sign in with Apple (in the iOS app): your Apple account ID, your name and email address if you choose to share them with us (Apple lets you share a private relay address that forwards to your own inbox instead of your real address), your saved designs and your favourite ayahs. We also keep a token from Apple, stored encrypted, only so that we can end the app's Sign in with Apple link when you delete your account.
- If you sign in with email: your email address, your saved designs and your favourite ayahs. To sign in we email you a 6-digit code. We keep only a scrambled (keyed hash) copy of the code, never the code itself, until it is used or expires after 10 minutes, and how many codes were sent to the address recently, to prevent abuse. If you sign in with Google and with email using the same email address, both lead to the same account.
- Saved designs. Every time you export a video or an image, or create a share link, the design is saved automatically so you can find it again on your Profile: its settings (ayahs, background, text style and so on) and a small thumbnail picture of it (about 360 pixels wide). If you are signed in, they are kept privately with your account; only you can see them. If you are not signed in, they are kept only on your device (the last 50).
- Profile details you choose to add (signed in, all optional):
- a display name, if you want one different from your Google name;
- preferences used for new designs: My language, default reciter, translation, orientation and text style;
- interests: up to 10 topics you pick;
- your country and city;
- a mobile / WhatsApp number, with a separate choice (opt-in) to receive a daily ayah on WhatsApp. The number is not verified.
- Share links. When you create a share link we store the design settings and a small preview image so the link shows a preview in messaging apps. Preview images are deleted after 90 days. For each link we also count, per day, how often it is opened in the app and how often people who opened it share the same design again or make their own version of it. If you are not signed in, the link keeps your anonymous device ID so that this device can show you these counts. The counts never say who opened or used a link, and only you can see the counts for your links (in Profile and Activity). Ayahs show anonymous totals (how often they were saved as a favourite, shared and made into new designs), never with names.
- Reports you send us about a background, search result or text.
What stays on your device
Images and videos are created on your own device. We do not upload or store your exported files: "Download again" on your Profile creates the file again on your device from the saved design. Your language, preferences and interests are stored on your device (and on your account if you sign in). Your streak (the days in a row on which you shared or made an ayah) is kept only on your device and shown only to you. When you are not signed in, your saved designs and their thumbnails stay on your device only; after you sign in, the app offers to move them to your account, and they move only if you choose to.
How we use it
- To run the app: search, suggestions, saved designs, share links and sign-in.
- Preferences are the starting point of each new design. Interests make the Discover feed show more ayahs about the topics you picked; the feed is put together on your device.
- Country and city help us understand, as aggregated counts, where AyahShare is used.
- Your mobile / WhatsApp number is used only to send you a daily ayah on WhatsApp, and only if you opted in. That service is not running yet; until it starts, we do not contact you. We never use the number for advertising and never share or sell it.
- To understand which features help people and to improve search and suggestions, using aggregated counts.
- To keep the service safe and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising. Our small team can see account details in an internal dashboard to run the service; your phone number is shown there masked (only the last three digits).
Services we rely on
- Cloudflare: hosting, database and storage, and sending the sign-in code emails (Cloudflare Email Service). The email contains only the code; it has no tracking. Before a code is sent, Cloudflare Turnstile may check that the request comes from a person and not a bot; it looks at signals from your browser or app, not at what you type.
- Google: Sign in with Google.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple (iOS app).
- AI services via OpenRouter: the text of a search query is sent to rank results and understand topics. No account information is sent.
- Quran content providers: Quran text, translations and recitation audio (alquran.cloud, everyayah.com), and tafsir and reflections (Quran Foundation / QuranReflect). These requests go through our servers, so these providers do not see your device ID or account.
How long we keep data
- Account data, profile details, saved designs, their thumbnails and favourites: until you remove them or delete your account. Deleting a saved design also deletes its thumbnail. Removing your phone number deletes it at once and ends the WhatsApp opt-in.
- An account keeps up to 500 saved designs; when it is full, the oldest are deleted to make room.
- Designs saved on your device: until you delete them on your Profile or clear the site's data in your browser.
- Detailed usage events: up to 3 months. After that only aggregated daily counts are kept.
- Share-link preview images: 90 days.
- Email sign-in codes: until used, or 10 minutes. The count of codes sent to an address is deleted within two days.
Your choices
- Use the app without signing in.
- Change or remove any profile detail at any time in Settings (from your Profile), and delete any saved design on your Profile.
- Delete your account at any time in Settings (from your Profile). This removes your profile and everything on it (name, preferences, interests, location and phone number), your sessions, your saved designs and their thumbnails, and your favourites. If you signed in with Apple, we also ask Apple to revoke the app's Sign in with Apple link (if you last signed in with the first version of the iOS app, we may not be able to; you can always end it yourself under Sign in with Apple in your Apple account settings). See Delete your account for the steps.
- Contact us to ask what we hold about you or to request deletion. More help: Help and support.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
